June opens the proper beach season — 28°C days, sea at 22°C, near-zero rain, festa season ramps up, and the longest daylight of the year.

  • Average daytime high 28°C; lows 19°C; sea 22°C; rain days 1.
  • Sunshine 11 hours/day; sunset 20:30; daylight 15h 00m.
  • Mnarja (Imnarja), the oldest Maltese festa, runs 28-29 June at Buskett Gardens — folk music, traditional food, races.
  • Mid-June daylight is 15 hours a day — sunset around 20:30.
  • Aster House sits 150 metres from the Sliema seafront, sleeping up to 9 across three super-king ensuite bedrooms.

June is the month when Malta moves into full summer. The 28°C average highs are warm without being oppressive, the sea is comfortably swimmable from the first week, and the festa calendar fills out properly — every weekend somewhere on the island runs a village patron-saint celebration with brass bands, fireworks, and street food.

I find June the best summer month for families with primary-school kids who can travel before the August school holidays. Crowds are still manageable, prices are below the August peak, and the rooftop terrace at Aster House is at its summer best from mid-June onwards.

A Note From Susan

“June is the month I most often recommend for families with kids out of school early. The sea is warm, the heat is still bearable for sightseeing in Valletta, and the festa fireworks are the most exciting thing in the world if you are seven years old. Aster House sleeps 9, which makes it work for the whole tribe.”
