April delivers 19°C days, full daylight, low rainfall, and the year’s most spectacular religious processions over Easter weekend (Easter 2026 falls 5 April).

  • Average daytime high 19°C; lows 12°C; sea 16°C; rain days 6.
  • Sunshine 8 hours/day; sunset 19:30; daylight 13h 00m.
  • Easter 2026 falls on Sunday 5 April.
  • Easter 2026 is mid-month, so the entire month splits into pre-Easter quiet and post-Easter price climb.
  • Aster House sits 150 metres from the Sliema seafront, sleeping up to 9 across three super-king ensuite bedrooms.

April is the first month of the year that genuinely feels like a beach holiday is around the corner. Highs sit at 19-21°C, the sea climbs to 16-17°C, the daylight is full, and the wildflowers are still good through the first half of the month. Easter is the dominant cultural event — Easter Sunday 2026 falls on 5 April — and it brings out some of the most theatrical religious processions you will see anywhere in Europe.

If you can time the trip to be in Malta over Good Friday and Easter Sunday, you will see traditions that go back to the 16th century, particularly in Zebbug, Qormi, and Vittoriosa.

April events in Malta — Easter 2026

Easter 2026 falls on Sunday 5 April. Good Friday processions on 3 April are the most spectacular — Zebbug, Qormi, Mosta, Naxxar, Vittoriosa (Birgu), Luqa, and Zejtun all run major processions with statue-bearers, full Roman costumes, and biblical tableaux. Zebbug and Qormi are the most theatrical. Easter Sunday morning brings the Irxoxt (Risen Christ) processions in Vittoriosa and Cospicua, where statue-bearers literally run through the streets. The Strawberry Festival in Mgarr typically falls in late April. National holidays cluster around Easter week so book accommodation early.

A Note From Susan

“I tell every first-time guest who is in Malta over Good Friday to go to Zebbug. The procession runs for hours, every household opens its doors, and the choreography is older than most countries. It is one of the things I love most about being here.”
